Pinnacle Lumpinee Hotel & Spa

Accommodation and facilities:
We have now stayed at the Pinnacle many times over the years and have rarely had any cause for complaint. Our most recent two trips, both for three days, within a fortnight of each other, in December were very pleasant. The hotel staff are ALL very helpful and we struck up an especially good relationship with receptionist Khun Sonsawan and one of the porters, whose name we forget…but thanks. They were very good especially with our eight year old son. The rooms are mostly of a similar standard, very clean with most things in very good condition. Some have recently been refurbished and the beds are very comfortable. The air conditioning works well and, on our second stay, we were given a room on the tenth floor which had a stunning view over much of the city of Bangkok. The hotel is ideally located for access to the Expressway, less than a kilometre to the access road in each direction, to Lumpini Park – an oasis of recreational facilities just off Rama IV Road – and the Silom complex which includes the notorious Patpong area. The famous Lumpini Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) Stadium is immediately across the main road with fights taking place three times a week I believe, certainly on Tuesday when we were there. Several restaurants, both indoor and out, are within minutes walking distance, as are a 7/11 and a Tesco Express store, with a small night market on the other side of Rama IV Road, easily accessed by a footbridge. The hotel made a special effort for the foreign residents in decorating for Christmas and the inclusive breakfast is always very varied, both Thai and western, and to a fairly high standard. The eggs department is especially good for fired and omlettes, although struggles to understand soft-boiled eggs! A small car-park is available to those with their own transport and again this is over seen by a member of staff, while the Lumpini Metro Station and all it connects to is maybe 500m walk. Many buses go in a multitude of directions along Rama IV Rd and between them, they connect to almost anything in the city. The 14th floor outdoor swimming pool is small but clean and, again, the view from it makes the journey up one of the two efficient lifts worthwhile. There are a few tables and chairs nearby which make the outdoor retreat a good place just to go and sit and chat or even work (that’s what I did). The jacouzi didn’t appear to be working fully when we were there. Wifi is available on all floors but the signal varies, although we never had a problem using it and the strength of signal in reception, where there is a large a pleasant lobby area, is always fine. The Hotel runs several special offers (3 nights for 2 or 20% discount) which make the rooms good value for money, although without them the ‘rack’ room rates might be deemed a little expensive compared to the massive amount of competition now in the area.

Sawasdee.com were very efficient and we like to use as they maintain an excellent and informative website for travellers to Thailand.

Reservation service:

The Pinnacle Lumpinee is not bad, but their standard rooms are too small and in our room the aircon wasnt working so we had to change room and the drain in the bathroom was clogged.... Good service, but I would recommend the Forum Park hotel instead. Sathorn area, starting at only 1100 for large refurbished rooms. SIAMESERVICES.COM was as efficient as ever.

Reservation service:
Booking with RES24ASIA.COM was smooth as usual, will always book with them again. Fast service and great rates.

The staff were rather un friendly and did not seem to communicate with each other. It can't be hard to smile once in awhile. The door staff were friendly but the sightseeing advisor had no advice to give and couldn't help us at all. Most times when we walked past his office he was asleep.

Accommodation and facilities:
The Pinnacle was pretty much exactly as others described it - a very god value-for-money hotel. You don't go there expecting luxuries or five star service. Unlike some other reviews, we found the staff to be very friendly. It might take some effort on your behalf though (ie learning some of the LOCAL language, like thank you and hello ) to elicit a big smile from them. Anyway... The Hotel is close enough to the main road to access everything, but far enough away to be shielded from it's noise. The Suan Lumm Night Bazaar is a five to ten minute walk and is an absolute must. Apart from the great shopping there, you can indulge in a massage and there are plenty of great places to eat. There is a huge food court in the middle, but know that prices here for both food and especially drinks are considerably more expensive than the retaurants within the bazaar. We can also recommend the restaurant Just One . Walk down the Hotel driveway and turn left on the soi. It's a five minute walk away from the main road on the right hand side. Get a seat outside in the garden for dinner. When you turn left onto the main road, the (amazing) MRT Subway is only a five minute walk. One stop later you can connect with the Sky Rail. This is the best way to get to the Grand Palace et al. Take the Sky Train to the very end and catch a Ferry up the Chao Praya - the ferry only costs 22BHT. Yes, you will never be able to leave the Hotel without a taxi driver or Hotel limo driver offering to take you somewhere. I expect this is the same for every tourist at every hotel in Bangkok. A smile and a polite no, thank you sees them off easily. When we wanted to get to the Southern Bus terminal, the Hotel limo driver quoted us 550BHT. The metered taxi we caught cost us 140BHT. Our only complaint - being in a room next to the lift shaft. We could hear the faint groaning of the lift in the night. It wasn't so bad as to keep us awake, but you do hear it. Given the option, we would have taken another room just to be clear of it. For every floor I imagine that room number is the same - #1. As most others have commented, the breakfast was very good - a wide range covering most breakfast styles. And you need a good brekky when you want to get out into Bangkok and take it head on.

Reservation service:
Excellent. Very easy to use and no problems at the Hotel.

I will never stay at this hotel again. It is dirty and in need of a remodeling. The breakfast is only passable. Early check-outs, ie. before they open for breakfast, are not offered a take-away breakfast. But perhaps the most objectionable thing is all the queers/fagots running around then place.

Reservation service:
You booking service, which I have used several times, works quite well, and I have never had a problem.
