Quiet, super clean, cozy, good size & comfortable rooms with a great ambience & friendly staff. Full of dark woody furniture with bamboos as deco. Warm & helpful staff, especially Ms Tang who would serve your breakfast super fast, toast was good. There is a night market just 2 minutes walk from the hotel. Very easy to find food everywhere but yet it is so quiet because it is located at the back lane. To locate this hotel, just tell the taxi it is at Thapee Road (in the night there will be a night bazaar but is not the old night bazaar). It is just one street behind it where you can walk through from a restaurant that has a signboard the best curry in Chiangmai , just 2 minutes. Otherwise, if you walk the longer way, it may take you 10 minutes. Check with the staff there if you didnt manage to find the hotel. The things sold in this night market is surely much cheaper than the original old one where the vendors are more dishonest.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at portico. The general feeling was more of a guest house experience. We were treated as if we were family. Although the hotel was supposedly booked out, we rarely saw more than 2 other couples. In terms of location it was fantastic to come back and take a cool quiet rest before returning to the wonderful celebrations of Loy Krathong taking place right at our doorstep.

4 nights stay. Had a comfortable room which was bigger than most in this category. Liked the modern Zen design. Wonderful breakfast-missed the freshly squeezed orange juice.. On the other hand, samll inconveniences like the water flow from shower was not consistant, thus difficult to control the hot/cold water. Air-con in my room was not functioning well-felt warm even at low temp setting. Overall, had a good time and will stay Portico 21 again.

By far the nicest hotel I ve stayed in my 4 visits to Chiang Mai. It's perfectly located on a quiet soi just steps away from 3 main streets. It's built in the lanna style, lots of wood shutters, etc. The photos on the web do not do it justice, believe me. It's way nicer. The rooms are large well designed and immaculate. The bathrooms are also large and squeaky clean. Dan, the manager I guess, is such a joy; nothing is too much trouble for her. Breakfast started with loads of fresh fruit and coffee or tea and proceeded on to either a continental type or full American style bacon and eggs. Every little detail was attended to and I will stay here every time I am in Chiang Mai.

Very nice little hotel, quiet location in a small side lane off the main street with absolutely great staff - very helpful as family run business. Top cleanliness. Quite new and somewhat stylish building and rooms perfect with cozy though quite hard beds (we had a twin room), great and very quiet aircon that is not blowing on beds and a small but top bathroom with all you need. Close to the city walls as well as only a good 5 minutes stroll to the night market. Breakfast was nothing special, but with fresh toast and croissant, good coffee and fresh fruit. Will stay there again on my next trip to Chiang Mai.

Even though the hotel was not located along the main road, it was just 5mins walk from the Sunday Bazaar, which offers much better merchandise than the daily Night Bazaar. The reception area and the rooms were like as what you really seen in the website. The bedsheets and towels are NEW and smells so pleasant! Contemporary style with NO FRILLS, which means, no hairdryer and no coffee/tea beverage or no electric teapot. Which I believe if you do ask, they will bring it up. Staffs are very polite and very neat in their dressing. Breakfast is Continential with choices of Cereal, Toasts, All kinds of Eggs request, Fruits, sausages and hams and porridge. Overall I will recommend it to my fellow travellers. I have enjoyed my stay quite well.

SUPER friendly and helpful staff, espescially the elderly woman in the reseption area. Really nice interior(desgn, colours, fabrics, art ) both in the common areas as well as in the room. My room was clean and absolutely bug/gekkofree, although some gekko-pooph had escaped the brooms. I extended my stay two more days here, mainly because of the staff. But: With the huge selection of accomodation available in Chiang Mai, this hotel was a bit overpriced, I think.

This hotel is a fairly new one and should certainly be rated 4* with the quality of service it provides. The owner has lovingly decorated the place and it is very chic, with beautiful rooms (well, mine was, anyway) and a lovely lobby. The best thing is the staff - they are exceedingly polite, professional and keen to please. The service they provide is similar to what I would expect at the Four Seasons! The rooms are all no-smoking which means they smell wonderfully fresh. They are absolutely spotlessly clean with tasteful, new decor. BUT there is no elevator - and that is a nuisance - and no swimming pool. However, a small hotel down the road will offer day use of their pool for 100 baht. The breakfast is only Continental style (personally I prefer a good bacon fry-up in the morning) but it is thoughtfully served by the wonderfully attentive staff. Would thoroughly recommend staying here. It is very convenient for the old city as well as the night market

We LOVED this hotel! It as fantastic, really great value and the people who ran it were so lovely. Right near the action and what an oasis. Chic decor and everything beautiful, in great working order and such a sanctuary from the hot dusty town that is Chiang Mai. Don't get me wrong we loved the town, but we loved coming back to this place even more! We had a bit of trouble with a few cab drivers so make sure you have the address with you when you get to the airport but it is so central and so good am sure they will all know where it is pretty soon! The room was fantastic, very roomy, modern and comfortable (on the top floor so you got a good workout too), with a lovely view of the town and mountains. Honestly we wouldn't stay anywhere else and this place was one of the finest accommodation experiences we had in Thailand AND one of the least expensive!!! Bit of bad news here - the booking went well except for the airport pick up. The driver had no idea where the hotel was and we drove around for nearly an hour. This was the fault of the booking service as they gave the driver an incorrect address. He nearly had us convinced there was no hotel and that we may have been the victims of an internet scam! Nothing further from the truth, the hotel and it's proprietors were well above our expectations - thanks! New boutique hotel just outside the east gate of the old city, so within a few minutes of the walking street market on sundays and about 10 minutes from the night market. Very helpful and friendly staff, decor is minimally stylish and bedrooms a good size. A new hotel is being built next door which may cause noise problems during the day, but did not affect us as we were out before 8am and in after 4pm each day. As this place is new it is advisable for you to get hotel staff to explain to any tour guides exactly where the hotel is so they know where to collect you from - the hotel staff suggested this when we arrived and were more than happy to help.

This was my first trip to Thailand and I was very impressed with the Portico Hotel. The hotel was very clean. The service was great and the hotel was very nicely decorated. What made the stay for me was all the little things. The fact that the shower had warm water and good pressure. There is airconditioning. There were never any bugs in my room. We received fresh towels and new soap every day. We were able to walk to almost everything because Portico 21 is close to everything. Bars and restaurants are steps away and the night market is less than 10 minutes away. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

I booked my family and friends between the last week of January and checked out the first week of Febuary. In total there were about 15 of us staying at the Portico.. What a suprise, the hotel looks exactly as show on the website! It is a beautiful hotel and located in a great area. It's walking distance to the night markets/bazzars and a quick tuk tuk ride to the shopping main centres. The rooms all have A/C and the beds are very comfortable. There are lots of hot water and good water pressure from the shower head. The owner and people working there are very helpful and friendly. We will definitely stay here again!

The staff were very friendly and spoke English. The room is air conditioned, spacious, simply furnished (i.e., not cluttered) and very clean. I especially liked the hardwood flooring and the wood in the rooms and the lobby. The bathroom is modern and has a shower (no bath). A note for those with difficulty climbing stairs: the hotel has 4 floors but no elevator. The continental breakfast served was ample: coffee or tea, fresh squeezed orange juice and chilled water, a yoghurt, a banana, two slices of toast with real fruit jam, a muffin or slice of banana bread, and a medium sized croissant. Excellent location near the Thapae Gate (and the local Sunday market), and only a 15-20 minute walk to the Night Market. I really enjoyed my stay and plan to visit the Portico 21 Hotel on my next visit!

Had a wonderful time at Portico 21. They have the BEST staff...and I can't complain at all...but only praises for them. The hotel is a walk-up, but don't let that stop you cos I had my elderly folks with me...and I pre-arranged for them to occupy the 2nd level, rm 201! Just speak to Deang or Uan of the hotel.

The hotel is very nice. When I first walked in I thought I was going into someone's condo. It was nicely decorated and the rooms are very up-to-date. The shower is separated by a curtain so you don't get the whole bathroom wet when you take a shower. There is no elevator, but only four floors. Location is great. 100 meters from Loh Kroh road and the Tha Pae Gate, 10 minute walk to the night market. The hotel staff does not have a problem if you bring a guest in. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. I checked out and returned three days later and they were happy to keep my luggage for me. The rooms were cleaned daily. I will certainly return to this hotel in the future. Highly recommended.

A nice little cosy hotel. However, the location is slightly off and maybe difficult to find. Staff was friendly but room amenities could be improved. For THB2000 a night (a bit pricey relative to the facilities available), I was expecting at least some coffee and tea-making facility but none was available. Breakfast was normal continental with two slices of bread. a cup of orange juice and coffee. A good 15 mins walk to the night-market. One last thing, it is a 4 storey building with no elevator. So if you have a big luggage, it will take some heavy effort to carry up to the 4th floor. CK, Malaysia

This was a great hotel, very clean, the rooms were modern and very new. The staff was great and the hotel is in a good location. The only thing I would improve is the breakfast, which was not bad, but it would be to have more variety than just American style breakfast.

2 minute walk to the Thapae Gate and tucked away in a quiet lane. Basic but great little hotel with very friendly staff. I d suggest the management pay a little more attention to bathroom maintenance. Otherwise, we had a very pleasant stay. Thank you.

We loved our stay here, great value for money. The rooms were modern, I was really impressed with the standard of cleanliness. The staff were fantastic even preparing our breakfast to go when we were picked up early for tours. The location is a winner, close to night market, weekend walking market & great cafes. This was the only place we stayed whilst travelling through Thailand to offer free internet usage from our laptop. I would love to stay here again, loved Chiang Mai!!

Very comfortable hotel and excellent interior design. Great place to rest your mind. Definitely worth the stay especially proximity to Sunday market. Only negative is that the breakfast is too light. Toast, jam, coffee, juice.

I was so delighted with the Portico 21 that I stayed an extra 3 nights. It's only been open a few months, is spotlessly clean (new sheets, towels, even toilet rolls (!) every day), modern and stylishly decorated. The Portico's position very close to the Thapae Gate is ideal for exploring the old city and it's about a 10 minute walk to the Night Market. It's set just a street back from the Moat and quiet at night. Staff have been incredibly helpful and friendly and the security guard saluted me every time he held open the door for me! Breakfast is continental, but there was plenty of it. I found absolutely no fault with this hotel and would recommend it!I will return!

of Chiang Mai's city center. A few guestrooms offer a good direct view
of Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, the mountain-top Temple overlooking Chiang
Mai. Families and/or groups of friends can be accommodated in inter-communicating guestrooms with twin single beds and double beds. We provide a free internet hotspot (Wi-Fi 801.11g) in the lobby for guests wanting to surf the Net with their own laptops.
